HCCF Release Records

Humboldt County Correctional Facility is the county's adult jail. It is run by the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Custody Services Division and holds both sentenced and non-sentenced adults. A release from HCCF means the person left county jail custody, but it does not always mean the court case ended. The daily release record may show a person released to self, moved to a medical facility, released on bail, released on recognizance, released after a court order, released under Penal Code 849(b)(2), or transferred into another custody path.

The county's strongest recent-release source is the Sheriff's Jail Reports page. It publishes daily PDFs from the jail system. The `Released` PDF confirms a dated HCCF release, while the same-date `BookingSheet` can add arrest agency, case number, charge, and release-type context when the person was booked and released during that report cycle. A released person may leave a live custody list, so the daily release PDFs are the first local source for a recent HCCF release.

The Sheriff's Releases page explains why timing can vary. Recognizance releases occur soon after booking is complete, unless the person is intoxicated and cannot safely care for themselves. Court releases are processed after jail staff receive and process court paperwork. Served-sentence releases are generally handled between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., depending on staff workload.

Confirm an HCCF Release

Use the county jail route for an HCCF release. CDCR's CIRIS is useful for state prison custody, but it is not the first search for a person who was only booked into the Humboldt County jail. The practical release-search route is date based: choose the likely release date, open the dated `Released` PDF, read the report window, then search the PDF by name if the viewer supports text search. If no exact date is known, open nearby reports and build the window from daily PDFs.

1. Open the Sheriff's Jail Reports page and look for the date that matches or follows the expected HCCF release.
2. Open the dated `Released` PDF and confirm the report window. The sample 2026-07-13 report covered a daily window from early July 12 to early July 13.
3. Search for the person's last name, then verify the row with booking number, inmate number, name, sex, date of birth, release type, release date and time, and released-to field.
4. Open the same-date `BookingSheet` if the person was booked and released quickly. It may show agency, charge, case number, arrest type, release date and time, and release type.
5. Use California VINE for custody-status alerts or a current status check when the PDF has not caught up.
6. Use the Sheriff's Records Unit or Humboldt Superior Court when the online PDF window is not enough for the record needed.

That broader route matters when the person was transferred from HCCF to CDCR, moved to another agency, or left HCCF but still has a court date or supervision term.

HCCF Records Contact

The jail and records sources use more than one official address context. The inmate information source uses Humboldt County Correctional Facility, 901 5th Street, Eureka, CA 95501 for inmate mail. The jail reports contact context lists the jail at 826 4th Street in Eureka and gives the facility phone. Use the exact address required by the source or form being used, and identify the record by date, booking number, inmate number, and release date if those are known.

For copies beyond the public daily report, route the request to the Sheriff's Records Unit. The Records Unit says requests may be submitted through an online records request form or a PDF form, with typical processing within 7 to 10 business days. CPRA requests are preferably sent through the county NextRequest website, but written requests may also be sent by mail, email, fax, or hand delivery. Requests should be specific enough to identify the record sought.

Note: The Records Unit is the records route; it is separate from a live custody-status check through jail staff or VINE.

About HCCF Custody

The Sheriff's 2023 HCCF year in review gives the most useful local scale. It describes HCCF as about 155,000 square feet on six floors, with a Board-rated capacity of 417 beds. The Custody Services Division is described as the largest division in the Sheriff's Office, with 109 correctional staff. Its primary function is care and custody of sentenced and non-sentenced inmates in HCCF.

The facility also reports in-custody programs, including College of the Redwoods credit courses, high school equivalency exams, anger management, substance abuse counseling, religious counseling, yoga and meditation, literacy, English as a Second Language, computer basics, and the Sheriff Work Alternative Program. These programs do not replace the release record, but they help explain why HCCF records can involve pretrial custody, local sentences, work alternative status, and transfer to state prison.

HCCF Release Report Fields

The daily `Released Inmate Report` is a custody-system PDF, not a full case history. Its fields are still strong for release confirmation because they show who left, when they left, the release type, and where the person was released to. The example report from July 13, 2026 includes booking number, inmate number, inmate name, sex, date of birth, release type, release date and time, and released-to destination.

The HCCF year-in-review source provides the local scale behind those daily records, including facility size, bed capacity, booking count, average daily release count, and state-prison transfer count.

Those figures show why a daily release PDF matters in Humboldt County. A current custody roster alone would miss people who already left the jail during the morning report cycle.

HCCF to CDCR

Some HCCF cases do not end at the county jail door. The 2023 source says 144 inmates were sent to state prison, which means a person may leave HCCF and then become a CDCR custody case. For that path, the Humboldt release PDF may show the county movement, while CDCR's California Incarcerated Records & Information Search may show state location, CDCR number, date of admission, county of commitment, and parole eligible date fields for current state custody.

For parole-hearing cases, the Board of Parole Hearings may have hearing schedules or results. For state parole after release, CDCR Division of Adult Parole Operations is the supervision channel, with a Eureka parole unit listed in the research. For a county probation case, Humboldt County Probation is separate from CDCR. Do not treat a transfer to CDCR as the same thing as release into the community.

Note: When HCCF releases a person to another agency, the local jail release record may be correct even though the person is still in custody somewhere else.
